Your Areas of Excellence

Good news! You already contain all the gifts you need to create the life you are capable of having.

I know what I am good at, and what I am not. I lack patience for all things with an on button, but I can organize and move like a hidden superpower. I can write quickly, but math requires more time. We can’t have all the gifts, right?

The reality is that you contain all the gifts you need to create the life you are capable of having. Do you know what these gifts, talents, or abilities are? Are they being optimized?

When talking about business, if you were in a contest with your competitors, what prize would you win?

Science tells us that through Transactional Analysis people change when they encounter another person. This makes us all responsible for what happens in our futures, no matter what has happened in the past. This is like the theory of self-responsibility which suggests that by uncovering our own special talents and applying these to our lives, we will obtain the outcomes we seek. But these abilities and talents must be fine tuned and maintained, like all the other assets we possess.

Can you think of people you have met that emulate the characteristics of someone who is excellent at something? These people tend to be joyful in applying their gifts, others can feel their energy, and they work consistently on just getting better and better.

The foundational principle here is that you will be truly successful only to the degree to which you become fully excellent at the most important part of your work.

Looking ahead, you can also apply this practice to your business. To be excellent in five years you need to be exceptional at X, Y and Z. This will take you to the top 10% of your field. Once you decide what these are, start building those exceptionalities now.
