Lesson 5: Just Try It
Everything you like and love, you tried. So, never be done trying new things.
New food with new flavors, textures, and methods of cooking. New styles with colours and fabrics, and fits. New experiences with curiosity and wonder. New conversations with people that might surprise you. New behaviours on old routines. New ways of moving and challenging your physical self. New mindsets and ways of looking at things. New perspectives on old ideals. New friendships, connections, and experiences. New places and sights.
Humans are remarkable creatures of routine. We tend to wake up every morning to engage in a similar set of behaviors. And that can be great, but it can also be closed, boring, and predictable.
We know that growth happens when we are uncomfortable. And we know that routines and habits are comfortable. And they served us when we started them, but do they continue to serve us now? That can be hard to determine if you haven’t changed it up in a while.
How Can You Become A Bit More Adventurous?
Write down the things you do without fail. Can you tweak a few?
Write down things you have always wanted to try. When can you fit those in?
Look stuff up. Courses? Classes? Recipes? Books? Festivals? Locales? Does something inspire you?
Talk to people - friends, colleagues, family. Do they have some interesting ways of doing things? Get an invite, or ask for more information.
Analyze your flaws. If you are too much of something or not enough of something else, is there a way you can try to bridge those gaps with new ways of thinking or doing?
Book it. There is nothing like something on the calendar to get you out of your routine. Commitment is key for keeping things interesting.
Pick a city or town and wander. Find some local fare. See how others live.
Your turn:
How about you? How do you expand yourself?
To All: Thank you for being on this journey with me – past, present, and future.
